GoDaddy acquires domain marketplace Afternic

The web hosting giant GoDaddy acquired Afternic, a venture of NameMedia to make it simpler for small-scale business holders and entrepreneurs to purchase domain names.
GoDaddy will be procuring two other enterprises of NameMedia – NameFind, the business name generator and SmartName, the domain parking service very soon.
In last 15 months, GoDaddy has acquired four different projects; Locu also being one of these. About the rapid procurements, Elizabeth Driscoll, the Vice President (Public Relations) of GoDaddy revealed that the latest acquisitions done by the company are pieces of a strategy being built by GoDaddy to serve small businesses in a better way.
Afternic maintains a directory of 75 million domain searches and around 5 million domain names that are search on the Internet each month. It is an online portal which grants a marketplace to domain owners to sell their domains. With its acquisition, GoDaddy aims at providing cutting edge services to small-scale firms.
